Gallery: Stunning visualizations of science

It’s a feast for the eyes: the winners of the 2008 International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge have been announced.

The awards are given to the best photographs, illustrations and interactive media that visualize science and technology. The image on the right (click to see it full-size) won the “illustration” category – it shows the key components of the human circulatory system at 10 different magnifications.

The challenge is sponsored jointly by the journal Science and the National Science Foundation.
