One of the key goals of biologists around the world is to understand the internal workings of cells, in particular how they go wrong in diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s.

A new competition celebrates this work by highlighting the best images of cells. The IN Cell Image Competition is run by GE Healthcare to promote their IN Cell Analyzer, a system for producing detailed images of cells’ workings.

The company asked the scientists who used the system to submit their best images to the competition, which you can vote on until 5 January 2009.
