Britain’s government has decided not to give 6 million Pounds to a plan
to build a cyclotron, a machine providing a controversial cancer therapy,
at St Thomas’s Hospital in London. The proposed funding had been personally
supported by Margaret Thatcher, the former prime minister.

A recent study showed that the neutron therapy delivered by the cyclotron
was no more effective than conventional radiotherapy and more dangerous
