When rhinos roamed the Alps . . .

This enormous skull belonged to a rhinoceros that was roaming the Alps
around 10 000 years ago. A fisherman found the fossil by accident after
he had dropped his glasses in Lake Neuchatel, just west of Bern in Switzerland.
Beat Arnold, an archaeologist at the archaeological museum in the town of
Neuchatel, is pictured here holding the fossil.
