Bill Tidy intrigues and entertains New Scientist readers each week with
the tortuous goings on at Grimbledon Down. I was startled to find him amusing
Britain’s under-twelves one Saturday morning on children’s television as
he illustrated young callers’ suggestions for How to Draw 387 Baked Beans
in 10 Seconds (Andersen, pp 32, £2.99 pbk). It’s a wonderful collection
of puzzles to entertain children – how do you sketch 2 pints of sour milk
and 69 947 382 508 694 friendly bacteria?
