Do you wipe before you pour? If not, you should because you might otherwise
increase your intake of lead, says Britain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries
and Food.

The ministry points out that the tops of some wine bottles are capped
with lead foil coated in tin. Wine seeping between the cork and the bottle
can in time corrode the metal, forming toxic lead salts that accumulate
around the rim.
