Britain has become the first nation to renew its commitment to the Ocean
Drilling Programme, an international project that drills sediments and rocks
from the deep sea floor for research on past climate changes, ocean circulation
and Earth structure.

From 1993 the Natural Environment Research Council will be responsible
for Britain’s annual subscription, currently £1.47 million, to the
$50 million programme.
