Only 5600 kilometres from home

These two loggerhead turtles were a mere 5600 kilometres off course
last week when they washed up on the west coast of Ireland. Kerry County
Council workers cleaning oil from the shoreline found the two exhausted
turtles who normally live in the Gulf of Mexico. Mo (right) and Taffy, as
they have been christened, were first looked after by Kevin Flannery, the
Dingle marine officer. Now, they are resting at Ireland’s National Aquarium
in Bray, County Wicklow, prior to their trip back to air. ‘We are nursing
them back to health because they were very weak,’ said a spokesperson at
the aquarium.
