Concentrations of ozone-depleting halons in the lower atmosphere are
levelling off, according to research carried out by US scientists working
for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at Boulder, Colorado.

The finding, after decades of increases, is reported in the latest issue
of Nature. The NOAA team, led by James Butler, credit the improvement to
a combination of voluntary controls and measures adopted under the Montreal
Protocol.
