‘Science is fun,’ declared Britain’s science minister William Waldegrave
this week, during the launch of a government-sponsored campaign to improve
the public’s understanding of science.

Waldegrave, visiting a school in London, unveiled the provisional programme
for a ‘National Week of Science, Engineering and Technology’ in March, which
will form the centrepiece of the campaign.

Pupils at the school in Brixton were engaged in a science project sponsored
by the British Association for the Advancement of Science. So far, the government
has given the BA £265 000 for the campaign and has awarded £150
000 to individuals for specific projects.
