The third in an impressive clutch of Pimlico paperbacks is Peter Singer’s revised edition of Animal Liberation (£10, ISBN 0 7126 7444 6). His case for reexamining our moral and ethical stance towards other species is as powerful and persuasive as when he first wrote it. The new preface shows how attitudes have changed: vegetarians are virtuous, they were cranks in 1975. But, as Singer points out, his case is far from universally accepted.
