tourists and scientists alike. A Natural History of the Hawaiian Islands:
Selected Readings II edited by Alison Kay (University of Hawaii Press,
$24.95, ISBN 0 8248 1659 5) just about manages to justify the
self-indulgence of research in the land of the hula.
