Review : Life as cartoon

It sounds crass, but there is real science and wisdom alongside the wit in
The Cartoon Guide to the Environment (HarperPerennial, $14, ISBN 0 06
273274 9). The drawings are by Larry Gonick, perpetrator of The Cartoon History
of the Universe, and work magnificently to tell the story, which is written by a
“wastewater engineer” called—nominative determinists, hold your
breath—Alice Outwater.
