THE Easter symbols of bunnies and painted eggs give the game away. Easter is
a basically a pagan fertility festival. This quintessential Christian
celebration is even named after a heathen goddess. Around the time of the vernal
equinox the Saxons observed the sacrificial festival of the goddess Eostre, say
the pages at http://www.netwizards.net/folkhart/spring/EasterOst.html. The site
is a bit text-heavy and is written by modern pagans, but is great on background
information.

There are many Christian sites about Easter on the Web and the Yahoo index
has as good a list as any. Take your pick at http://www.yahoo.com/Society_
and_Culture/Holidays/Easter/
.

An alternative way to celebrate Easter is to take a virtual tour of
Jerusalem, stroll along the Via Dolorosa and see the stations of the cross for
yourself at http://virtual.co.il/communities/jerusalem/pathways/.
