Paul Rabinow’s latest book, Essays on the Anthropology of Reason (Princeton, £40/$49.50 hbk, £12.95/$14.95 pbk, ISBN 0 691 01158 3), takes us into the newer realms of anthropology, from the archaeology of modernity to the regulation of DNA fingerprinting. It seems all sciences are reinventing themselves as we approach the millennium. He covers much ground lucidly, as always.
