THE price of avoiding sunburn using the antiphotoageing face mask
patented by Isabel Banuchi of Puerto Rico (WO 97/08968) could be a chat with the
police.

Banuchi has come up with a flexible plastic wrap that attaches to a pair of
spectacles and covers the wearer’s face, forehead and ears. She claims it offers
better protection than sunglasses, and avoids the allergic reactions triggered
by some sunscreen lotions.

The mask is perforated to allow perspiration, and larger holes over the nose
and mouth let the wearer breathe normally. The mask not only protects
sunbathers, but helps to rejuvenate facial skin that is already sunburnt, says
Banuchi. Her sketches show a mask looking very similar to a bank robber’s
balaclava, so it’s probably not suitable for the Costa Del Crime.
