Child's dose

Drugs manufacturers in the US will have to test their products on children to
calculate recommended dosages under new Food and Drug Administration rules
announced last week by President Bill Clinton. The FDA says that drugs approved
for adults often behave differently in children, or require drastically
different doses. Yet only around 50 per cent of pharmaceuticals have been tested
on children. Manufacturers point out that testing on children is very difficult,
partly because parents often will not give permission.
