The Dead Eye Defender stops bullets in midair by tossing discs into their path. The machine, invented and patented by researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, tracks the bullets with infrared sensors. The discs are attached to a rotating turntable, so are in motion before the bullet is fired, says co-inventor Lee Pittenger. A prototype has yet to be built.
