But this is a man accused of killing three people and wounding 23 others in
a bombing campaign lasting nearly 20 years. Understandably, Kaczynski’s cult
status has infuriated his alleged victims.

Most vociferous among them is David Gelernter, a professor of computer
science at Yale. He suffered extensive wounds after opening a letter bomb from
the Unabomber in 1993. The bomber later wrote to him, taunting him for being
“dumb enough” to open a package from an unknown source. There’s a transcript of
