Christmas is a time to spend with family, but Netropolitan suspects that
many dedicated Web surfers will be only too glad of a few solitary hours to
check out one or two seasonal sites.

And there are some gems. Take a look, for instance, at a few of the pages
revealing what various cultures and religions celebrate at this time of year.
Christians aren’t the only people to have a midwinter festival to brighten the
gloom. In fact, there are few days in December that are not a holiday or
festival for someone.

A great place to start is http://www.maui.net/~mcculc/xmas.htm. This tells
you a little about why Christmas falls on 25 December, and hosts information
about another 12 festivals that fall in this month. These range from the obvious
winter solstice to the bizarre-sounding yak-butter sculpting festivals held in
Tibet.

Like many Web pages, this one leaves you wanting more, and other sites do a
better job of filling in the missing details.
