Netropolitan : Meet the neighbours

28 February 1998

Having moved offices four weeks ago, Netropolitan has been exploring our
new surroundings in the heart of Soho. Just around the corner is a public house
called the John Snow. The name commemorates the epidemiologist who first
realised that cholera is a water-borne disease. He halted the outbreak of 1854
by removing the handle from the pump in Broadwick Street. A replica pump stands
near the hostelry and you can read more about Snow—and the pub—at
http://www.sph.umich.edu/group/epid/GSS/pub.html.
