Oxford University Press has published three more of its biographical
series, Portraits in Science, begun this year. Aimed at capturing readers who
may not know much about science or its giants, each slim volume is written by a
distinguished author. They are impressive: it’s quite something to write
concisely, include everything of importance and remain interesting and lively.:
Isaac Newton by Gale Christianson, ISBN 0195120809; Alexander Graham Bell by
Naomi Pasachoff, ISBN 0195123212; Charles Darwin by Rebecca Stefoff, ISBN
0195120280. They cost $11.95.
