Birds of Australia, by Graham Pizzey and Frank Knight, lives up to its
claim to be the “definitive work on bird identification”: it is now the best of
the Australian field guides. Pizzey’s concise and informative text faces
Knight’s excellent colour plates, including nearly 800 species. One drawback is
that this book is too heavy and bulky to take into the field. Published by
