President Clinton announced last week that he will stop all federal
departments and agencies from using genetic information to hire, sack, classify
or segregate employees. The order will also mean federal employers can’t ask
for, collect or buy such information. In a 1996 study, 13 per cent of
respondents said that they or a family member had lost a job as a direct result
of a genetic condition.
