The US Supreme Court has upheld a decision forbidding Louisiana from making
state schoolteachers read “a disclaimer from endorsement of such theory” before
giving lessons on evolution. The disclaimer said lessons were “to inform
students of the scientific concept and not intended to influence or dissuade
[sic] the Biblical version of Creation”. In 1997, a lower court ruled that this
violated the constitutional separation of church and state
