A new Internet site spells trouble for the video games industry, just as the
music-swapping site Napster has brought the music industry out in a cold sweat.
Swapoo is offering free software that allows users to swap computer programs,
including Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis console games. The game code is
transferred from a games cartridge onto a PC, which can then use emulation
software to make it behave like a games console. Swapoo claims that 20 000
people a day are already using the site. Sega has vowed to “go after”
Swapoo.
