Kansas is likely to return to the evolutionary fold after three creationist
candidates lost bids for re-election to the state board of education in the
Republican primary last week. Last summer, the board voted 6 to 4 to drop
evolution from the state’s science curriculum. Scientists and educators
condemned the move and moderate Republicans pledged to overturn the vote,
defeating three of the four creationists who faced re-election this year.
Evolution should be back in the Kansas curriculum after the elections later this
year.
