Little books

Publishers need not only good books, but a whole lot of luck to succeed these
days. Wooden Books, based in Powys, Wales, has four titles coming out this week.
A mixed bunch: Matthew Watkins’s Useful Mathematical & Physical Formulae
scored nine out of ten on a swift scan. It looks good from its brown paper cover
to its elegant typography. And its contents will be a boon for anyone, needing a
quick reminder of a formula. The other three? Hmm. Not such good news. Published
