If you really want to pay to listen to the radio, Philips can help. In June,
the Dutch firm will launch a radio that tunes into the Internet instead of the
airwaves. So you won’t need a computer to listen to the traffic news in
Timbuktu. The Internet Shelf Radio plugs into a phone line and lets you choose
your Internet radio station. The service is free—but your Net connection
charges are likely to mount up.
