Address withheld

Britain is to take special measures to protect the directors of companies
doing animal research. At the moment they are an easy target for animal
activists because their home addresses must appear on a public register. But
under an amendment to the Criminal Justice and Police Bill currently going
through Parliament, the addresses of directors at risk could be put in a
separate, secure register. “This privilege will be extended only to those at
genuine risk. This will be very much the exception, not the rule,” says Stephen
Byers, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.
