The ice bucket will disappear from pubs and bars if British brewer Bass of
Burton-upon-Trent has its way. The company is patenting a method of dispensing
iced drinks straight from the tap (GB 2353348). The carbonated drink is squirted
into a glass from a nozzle at about –10 °C, while an ultrasound
generator vibrates the glass at around 30 kilohertz. The vibrations prompt a
slush of ice to form beneath the head of froth formed by bubbles shaken out of
