Fertility specialist, broadcaster and Labour member of the House of Lords,
Robert Winston also seems to have a soft spot for the history of religion. He’s
just reread the Jewish Historical Review—four volumes looking at
different aspects of the intriguing history of Jews in Britain. Also on his list
is The Beginning of Desire by Avivah Zornberg (Doubleday, 1996), a
commentary on Genesis that looks at the scientific explanations for the
beginning of life, but from a religious perspective.
