By combining fingerprint recognition technology with a PIN, engineers at
Caltech in Los Angeles believe they have come up with a more reliable ID system.
You don’t have to scan in all five of your fingerprints. Instead you choose the
order in which your fingerprints are scanned, which superimposes a PIN-like
level of security. The technique might persuade twisted thieves to leave your
fingers attached to the rest of you—as only you will know the order in
which your prints must be scanned.
