Supramolecular Organization and Materials Design edited by W. Jones and C. N. R. Rao, Cambridge, £70, ISBN 0521662400

A BOOK devoted to supramolecular chemistry sounds as though it will appeal only to a narrow audience, but happily the material covered by this book is broader than the title suggests. That’s because although “supramolecular chemistry” is fully defined as the “design, synthesis and study of molecular structures held together by non-covalent forces”, much of the content relates to materials whose “supermolecular” structures are very much held together by covalent forces.
