Heads like triangles

Intel has been working with the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur on ways to cut the amount of data needed in videoconferencing (WO 0203709). Today’s video compression systems divide each image into a mosaic of rectangles, compare how they change, and transmit only this data. Most videoconference images are of talking heads, so Intel suggests dividing them into triangles instead, because they fit more naturally over curved surfaces.
