Companies continue to take advantage of changes in the law which let them patent business techniques rather than physical inventions. Chip maker Intel is claiming two new ways to make money from Internet radio (WO 0209088) by tailoring the adverts to match the listener. Before you can listen to the free music, you have to register and answer a few questions about yourself. The music is then streamed, with gaps between songs. But instead of filling the gaps with a DJ’s banter, the website slots in adverts that are most likely to appeal.
