The debate over teaching evolution in American schools has entered a new phase. The Ohio Board of Education is considering whether to include the so-called theory of “intelligent design” in its curriculum, though most scientists believe ID is merely creationism dressed up as science. In December, scientists and educators were pleased with draft guidelines which explicitly required schools to teach evolution. But now creationists are suggesting a compromise where students will discuss the “controversy” surrounding evolution and in the process learn about ID.
