Atom dicovery faked

A lone scientist fabricated evidence pointing to the discovery of element 118, the world’s heaviest atom. In 1999, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California reported the discovery of an isotope of the element containing 118 protons and 175 neutrons. But after further work, the team retracted its claims last year. Now the lab admits that the original claim was based on “fabricated research data and scientific misconduct by one individual”. However, the lab has decided not to name the culprit.
