Smoking can seriously harm your cat's health

PASSIVE smoking may be as bad for pets as it is for humans. Researchers have found that cats who live with cigarette smokers are twice as likely to develop a deadly form of cancer called feline lymphoma.

Antony Moore of Tufts University in Grafton, Massachusetts, and his colleagues studied 180 cats treated at a Tufts veterinary hospital between 1993 and 2000.

They found that cats exposed to second-hand smoke were more than twice as likely to get the disease. Cats living with two smokers had four times the risk (American Journal of Epidemiology, vol 156, p 268).
