Xerox that circuit for me, would you…

WHAT could turn out to be an important step on the road to foldable or roll-up displays was unveiled last week. A researcher from Xerox’s lab in Canada announced that he has created an ink that can print flexible microchip circuits that will work in an ordinary, everyday environment.

Previous printable semiconductors have been unstable in air, and so have had to be kept in an oxygen-free environment. “You usually see devices made from semiconducting polymers being handled inside a glove box,” says Beng Ong, the materials scientist at Xerox Research in Mississauga, Ontario, who created the new material.
