Polaroid has seen the market for film cameras hit badly by the advent of digital photography. But now it is planning to fight back – with a single-use digital camera (WO 02/096090/1).

The cameras will have a simple lens, image sensor and microchip memory, but no LCD screen and no computer connections, to keep the cost down. When its memory is full of snapshots, you take it to a store that has equipment to download the images, clear the memory and effectively “reload” the camera for sale to someone else.
