Infamous as the star criminal hacker, Kevin Mitnick had to re-engineer his life when he was banned from access to computers (now lifted). Poacher turned game keeper, he now makes his living as an information security specialist. Written with William Simon, Mitnick’s The Art of Deception (Wiley, £9.99/$16.95) points out the real flaws in security systems everywhere – the human beings. He has a lot of interesting cautionary tales, but they are spoilt by the smug tone of the writing.
