BRITISH scientists are being urged by their UScolleagues to resist the growth of a brand of Christian schools that teach “intelligent design” alongside evolution. Scientists must be vigilant that creationists “do not gain a foothold in schools in the UK”, says Brigid Hogan of Duke University Medical School in Durham, North Carolina.

The Emmanuel Schools Foundation wants to turn an existing state school into the fourth of a proposed seven Christian academies in the UK. It says it is flooded with applications. But a parent group has organised a protest march for 19 June.
