The movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban carries an on-screen warning to the audience that ushers may be using infrared night vision goggles to spot people using camcorders. The warning highlights how measures to prevent pirating of movies, like attempting to dazzle the camcorder optics with an infrared light, have so far failed.

But now QDesign of Seattle, Washington is trying another tack (patent application W0 2004/40899). The firm has designed a projector that exploits the different ways the human eye and a camcorder respond to colour.
