FANS of nutritional supplements should go easy on the vitamin E. Take too much and you could be more likely to die.

“People hope to extend their life by taking lots of vitamin E,” says Edgar Miller of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. “But it doesn’t appear to be the case.” After analysing 19 major clinical trials of vitamin E supplements, Miller and his team conclude that the risk of dying among people taking more than 400 milligrams a day was raised by about 5 per cent over the average length of time of the trials.…
