We cannot slim on liposuction alone

IT SEEMS liposuction is not an effortless route to the perfect body. The first follow-up study of patients shows that within a few months nearly half are fatter than they were before surgery.

“If you use liposuction without diet and exercise you might as well save your money,” says lead author Rod Rohrich at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

With 320,000 takers in 2003, liposuction is the second most common plastic surgery procedure in the US after nose jobs. But until now, no one had looked at its long-term success.
