The Dinosauria edited by David Weishampel, Peter Dodson and Halszka Osmolska

By Graham Lawton

15 December 2004

THE cover alone tells you how much dinosaur palaeontology has changed in the past 14 years. The 1990 edition of Dinosauria featured three reptilian beasts in traditional dinosaur poses. The new one shows a feathered and birdlike Sinornithosaurus, a pair of Protarchaeopteryx looking for all the world like prancing turkeys, and a host of other unfamiliar beasts. The contents, too, have been comprehensively updated. If you want a complete round-up of the state of the art, look no further.
