Employees tempted to steal the computer equipment they work with will be frustrated by monitors that the Netherlands-based multinational Philips is selling to businesses. Its SmartManage monitors all contain a chip that “handshakes” regularly with an office network. While the screen is connected to the network it works normally. But 10 minutes after being disconnected it will automatically go into standby mode and remain unusable until it is reconnected to the network. The technology also allows IT technicians to adjust the monitor from afar.
