Time to give up the doughnuts. Between 1971 and 2001, more than half of US adults became overweight, while another 1 in 4 became clinically obese and a further 1 in 10 reached stage II obesity (defined as having a body mass index greater than 25, 30 and 35, respectively). More than 4000 adults were tracked during the survey, published on Tuesday in Annals of Internal Medicine (vol 143, p 473).
