Smart software learns actions of the elderly

WORD associations thrown up by Google searches are helping to endow software with enough common sense for it to be used to give elderly people some independence.

A group at Intel Research in Seattle, Washington, is developing a network of radio frequency identification (RFID) chips that can be used to remotely monitor the movements of elderly people in their homes and make sure they are not in trouble. The technology could help people stay in their own homes rather than moving into care.
